Ford Hurricane - Alive and Well

Ford Americas group chief - Mark Fields has decided to pursue the high-performance engine one year after scratching it from the Ford power plant line up. Fields revived the engine three months ago as part of a new restructuring plan for the automaker. The engine is slated for the F Series trucks, but there is some hope a 6.2L Hurricane will find its way into a Shelby or another version of the Ford Mustang. Is it possible that the Ford Lightning name will be on that F Series truck or will they simply name it the Hurricane? Time will only tell...

With gas prices on the rise, it was thought the engine would only send Ford sales further down the pipes. With the Hemi and Vortec being so popular, it was learned that Ford couldn't have been more wrong. Look for the Ford power plant to rip out well over 400 horses and around 425 ft lbs of torque, at least matching if not topping their competitors. Ford has come under repeated attack from environmentalists for placing at or near the bottom of the industry's fuel economy rankings. For years, the automaker's average fleet fuel economy has been lower than competitors, spawning anti-Ford campaigns such as Jumpstart Ford, which urges the automaker to adopt advanced fuel efficiency technologies more quickly.

At this point, the big 6.2L is doubtfully to be seen before the end of 2007 model year. The Cleveland casting plant has received orders for a new 6.2-liter engine block. Keep your fingers crossed Mustangs fans.
